| | Question - Cetipedes and Millipedes Hello, Does anyone know the most common Centipedes or millipedes you would find under stones in a typical British garden? What is more common to find out of these two?
Many thanks Jack !!!
Oh and also....anyone know of any really common spiders found here too?!

| | | Re: Question - Cetipedes and Millipedes Hi Jack..
Spiders, I would say Araneus diadematus is very common but I have several regulars of other species.
I have both flat-back millipedes and snake millipedes, I would think as common as each other but I see a few different species of millipedes in the family Julidae including Cylindroiulus sp. (unknown) Cylindroiulus punctatus, Ommatoiulus sabulosus and Tachypodoiulus niger. A very common Flat-backed milliped is Polydesmus angustus and that is likely the one I have.
Centipedes I see less of, but I occasionally see a Stone centipede, Lithobius forficatus. I also occasionally see the long thin earth centipedes amongst leaf litter.
Janet

Hey Janet,
You certainly know your latin names better that me! I know of the Araneus diadematus, but you're unlikely to find these under stones as they are orb spiders right? But are really common in the garden. Please do correct me if im wrong though! All the species I found are small about 9/10mm max and darkk in colour.
Many thanks for your help, Jack! |

| | | Re: Question - Cetipedes and Millipedes Jack.. if you saw my photo folders full of pics with names under them which I have been brushing up on the last few years you would know why I am familiar with Latin names!
No, you wouldn't find Araneus diadematus under stones but you didn't indicate you were after spiders under stones. I think most of the spiders found here are either in houses or sheds, on walls or plants. Quote: |

| Do you mean spiders? Size is usually given without legs, i.e. body only. If you mean spiders, do you have any photos? We have a spider forum too..
