| | | Small Beetle Photo ID Help please! Hi,
Please could you identify this insect for me please?
I have lots of them now...crawl quickly, haven't seen any fly, tend to stay in shade. Find them in cupboards, on my cd shelves, under sofas etc.
Would be really appreciated if you could help. |

| | | Re: Small Beetle Photo ID Help please! Could be Psocoptera? The ones you see inside are usually pale, but the shape looks more like a nymph of a Barkfly which normally live outside. I had some Ectopsocus come inside during winter 2009/10 on my east facing wall, a few adults and several different stages of nymhs. When spring came they all disappeared, I guess they all marched out the gap in the door! National Barkfly (Outdoor Psocoptera) Recording Scheme

| | | Re: Small Beetle Photo ID Help please! They don't all have wings, even as adults.. the young ones don't have wings, they are called nymphs but yours doesn't even look to have the beginning of wings.
I've been looking at Mesopsocus unipunctatus, there is a melanic form. Look at the photo of it.. you can see the antennae come from low down on the head. National Barkfly (Outdoor Psocoptera) Recording Scheme
Some info on it here.. Encyclopedia of entomology - Google Books
