Pine Ladybird ?? I think ..

I think this could be a Pine Ladybird because of the rim around the margin of the wing case - is this correct?

Evening John,

Yes, Pine Ladybird. There are about three of the little shiny black ones (in the UK) with the flattened rim, including the Heather and Kidney-spot Ladybird.

There is a form of Harlequin that can look superficially alike, too. That will usually have white markings on the head that will readily seperate it, but these can be reduced or even absent in late-year specimens. The size is a good clue in being almost twice as big as them, and it lacks the fairly distinct domed shininess of the Chilocorinae.
