Righto Janet - and yes was aware that insect length is measured without wings - I just gave the length both with and without as the info was available.
Thanks for help with id and links - your a star! As you're not certain I'll pop it up on diptera.info over the weekend.

Posted on diptera.info. on Sat last. After some discussion, your suggested Pherbellia won general support for genus (why aren't I surprised  ). Latest response a chap named Paul Beuk posted "I am inclined towards Pherbellia ventralis...".

Bruce.. Paul Beuk is the site owner and a well-known specialist in entomology so you could reasonably take his advice. You did well to get a possible species!
