What a terrific shot! I wonder what you're shooting with?! Plus skill and patience, of course! I think the hairs seeming to run down through the eyes always means Apis mellifera, the honey bee - no other bee seems to have that, but I could be wrong! |

Bees in the genus Coelioxys have hairy eyes too... but these bees are cleptoparasitic and very different to Apis |

Thanks for your comments Dillybythesea - much appreciated. The photo was taken with Nikon D300 + Nikon 105mm Macro lens and diffused Nikon SB-R1 close-up flash unit.
