| | | Bee/Wasp ID please. Stumbled across these in the woods today.
Are they Ground Miner Bees?
The nest was spread over an area of about a couple of foot square.
Thanks.

| | | Re: Bee/Wasp ID please. Looks like an Andrena sp. to me- hopefully Stuart (Eucera) will give a more precise ID. Nice to see the bees up + running (or should that be flying!) again. |

| | | Re: Bee/Wasp ID please. Look like Andrena of some sort. I suspect the appropriately named Andrena praecox (the most precocious of our Andrena species). Are there any Sallow trees in the neighbourhood?
There are 4 Andrena species that are on the wing now: the Sallow specialists A. praecox, A. clarkella and A. apicata, and the generalist A. bicolor. |

These are a few pics I took today that have trees in them from the surrounding area.
All lakeside.
The nest is in the ground directly to the right of the tree my kids are standing in.
The stump is 20/30 ft further on.
The nest is to the right of the lake photo.
If the other pic is of Sallow, then that tree is on the other side of the lake from the nest.
Hope this helps you for me.
Thanks.
C.

| | | Re: Bee/Wasp ID please. The flowers you show are male Sallow catkins. Worth looking on tree trunks to see if there are male bees catching a few rays of sunshine. The early spring fliers love doing this | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
