| | | Tiny balck weevil for id Stony Stratford, Bucks.
Similar to a weevil I posted last November, however this one is just 2 mm long whereas the November weevil was 4mm long. The base location of the antennae looks slightly different too:
Help with identification appreciated: 2mm weevil 4th March '11 4mm weevil 19th November '10

| | | Re: Tiny balck weevil for id CORRECTION:
I've just noticed that I was using a 12mm extension tube with the 105mm macro lens on 19th Nov '10. So the correct size for the larger weevil is 3.25mm not 4mm.

| | | Re: Tiny balck weevil for id Afternoon Bruce,
I can't help with identifying it, but it's an Apionidae member again. Probably male.
An important point is knowing what plants were around, and in particular that it was on?
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Tiny balck weevil for id Thanks Jason.
It was on a metal wall just inside the entrance to a tunnel under the A5. Nearest plants are brambles. Nearby trees are willow, ash and poplar.

| | | Re: Tiny balck weevil for id It is possibly a Protapion fulvipes, a Pseudapion rufirostre or similar species of Apionidae. |

| | | Re: Tiny balck weevil for id I guess no.1 is Stenopterapion whereas no.2 is Squamapion. But Apionidae is by far to difficult to tell the genus for sure at this photos.
Regards
Klaas
