| | | Re: Need spider eggs on banana identified please I found a white sac on a banana this morning, then I saw two little spiders run out.
Can you identify them? The bananas are labelled as coming from the Dominican Republic.
At the moment I have put them in a glass bowl with a bunch of leaves which have aphids on them (nutrition?)
Check out the picture please |

| | | Re: Need spider eggs on banana identified please Certainly looks like a Salticid (Jumping Spider), you would need better images for a clearer identification ... |

| | | Re: Need spider eggs on banana identified please Thanks for the info Action_Man. Yes they are tiny at the moment, that's the best my mobile phone camera can do. I'll try to get a better photograph today.
I have also emailed Tony from (dominicanspiders.blogspot.co.uk) who gave the same identification and asked for another picture in 3 months or so when they have matured.
Tony told me I could release them, or keep them in separate boxes and feed them fruit flies. |

| | | Re: Need spider eggs on banana identified please How many have you got ?, and can you send me one or two ? .
If you need any advice in rearing them, just give me a shout, i have kept non-native Salticids before, and there pretty easy to rear to adulthood ... |

| | | Re: Need spider eggs on banana identified please Yes I can send you them if you are willing to rear them, I definitely saw 2 run out but only one is active the other went back into the sac and I haven't seen it since.. If I ever see another white sac on a banana I now know to leave well alone.
I would keep them but spiders aren't really my favourite to be honest.. however it would be sad to let them die.
Would they survive in the postal service? |
