My wife is sorting her collection of wildlife images out. Does anyone know what this little beast is. The pictures were taken on a beach in Devon last September.

It's a Western Conifer Beetle ( Leptoglossus occidentalis).

A Western Conifer Seed Bug Leptoglossus occidentalis - a large and spectacular species which has colonised Britain during the last few years. There were a lot of records from Devon last autumn, many of which probably originated from the continent. |

Thanks for the quick and expert responses all. These images were taken on 05 September 2010 on the beach at Dawlish Warren in Devon.
