Sorry Deb, I meant to say invertebrates.
Although im not too hot on any inverts to be honest. We arent supposed to look outside for them as we only have a week so cant run an experiment. The purpose (apparently) is to find infomation on the internet using different sources to find the most common invertebrates found in British gardens. She made it up on the spot and I think everyone is struggling!!! |

A dew years back there was an 'in-depth' study of Sheffield gardens which has been written up in great detail. Similar studies have since been carried out elsewhere in the country. |

No worries. As Kayleigh rightly surmised, I was just a little concerned that this was more a reflection on the standard of your teaching than anything else. Glad it was just a typo.
We were rubbish picking today and had to lift bags that had been there a good few months. Not stones exactly. There were several species of earthworm, a slug and a type of centipede. I have no details as to which species they were.
I will check some of our local natural history reports for you. I know they have field trips and look under things to record what they find. They may be more concerned with rarer species, but I'll report back if I find anything useful.
All the best,
Deb
EDIT I ran a search for you on WAB. I refined it to "insects and inverts" and "show posts".
You will find a few creatures here if you separate the wheat from the chaff: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...archid=1056644
You could do the same for the categories that might have species that hide under stones (eg. spiders).

........... | There's a book in the Naturalists' Handbooks series (Richmond Publishing) - #22 'Animals under logs and stones' by Wheater & Read - which doesn't claim to be comprehensive but is very good for identifying invertebrates to Order, Family and often Genus. |
