| | | Re: black/orange fly for id Evening Iain,
Great shot! Do you have any others? The arista are non-plumose, which I assume knocks out most Calypterates. In the past on WAB we've had these elongate orange-grey flies in January ID'd as Heleomyzidae Fly with grey thorax and pinkish abdomen (23rd Jan), and the ( possible) pre-apical bristle and at least non-convergent post-vertical ( a dorsal view would be good) seem to back that up.
How certain are you with 15mm?
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: black/orange fly for id Thanks for the reply and comments Wild-Woman and Jason, luckily I'd dragged it into the house and so it's actually still bopping about. It's now been duly measured and 7-8mm looks about right, including wings so ignore the 15mm, that's way off (probably just a man thing). Anyways it's just flown off again so that may be the last I see of it.
Dorsal view below
Hope that helps,
Many Thanks
Iain
