Moth info pls

[Weedy]

This little chap was outside the back door in sub zero temps in the middle of December. It flew off spiraling upwards as it went around 9 pm. Location: Inverness-shire. Is it normal to have moths about in these cold conditions?

There are moths that fly during mild weather in the winter, and appropriately enough the one you've photographed is called a Winter Moth, Operophtera brumata.

At the moment I've my back door light on and there are 12 Winter Moths and 2 Mottled Umber's sat on the wall around it ......
