| | | Shield bug in winter I was clearing out a room the other day and found a little green shield bug, mostly green with coppery colouring on a white paper bag. He didn't move so I assumed he was dead, took him to the kitchen window sill with the intention of getting a great photo of him the following morning.
Haha... but he was gone!
Now, I've since found him and just wonder where I should put him to get him through the winter. It seems way too cold to put him outside?
Thanks! |

| | | Re: Shield bug in winter Do you have a shed or garage? failing that a basement or a loft. If you dont have either release it in a sheltered location outside. Like in a dense conifer, under some logs/log pile. Can you get a photo of it? |

Greenhouse yes, but the temps could be as low as -8 if our recent weather continues.
I can create a spot for him, a box in a box with plenty of dry leaves or something like that?
Dense conifer is possible, I can place him very close to the middle of the tree.
Which would be best? |

| | | Re: Shield bug in winter Dont put it in the greenhouse. A box of leaves would work as long as its sheltered, its dry and theres no chance of it flooding etc. I would put it in a conifer, like leylandii if you have any.
Its a Hawthorn Shieldbug Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale, |
