| | | Re: Small striped insect for identifcation It's a solitary bee and probably either Colletes halophilus or Colletes succinctus. Habitat may help to decide which. C. halophilus is a coastal species whereas C. succinctus is found on heathland.

| | | Re: Small striped insect for identifcation Looks like a male Colletes hederae to me since the stripes on the tegulae are rather orange-tinged. This is a very late season species which collects pollen almost exclusively from ivy. When did you take the photo? |

I was looking for wasps not bees!
I thought you must be right with C.Halophilus as I am in Weymouth so the coastal part fits but....all information I have seen so far says that they have white stripes.
I did come across C.Hederae though and they have yellow stripes so maybe that's what it is. What do you think?
Looks a bit like an alien doesn't it Faz ?

What do you think? | Looks like you cross-posted with Tristan who also says C. hederae. Tristan knows waaaay more than I do about these things so I'd definitely go with his ID. I'm just pleased I was in the right genus.
