| | | anyone know?? can anyone tell me how to tell the difference between woodworm beetles and biscuit beetles. these bugs are up stairs in my house in there hundreds and over everything. i will try n put pics on but as they are small the pics wont be of much help, thats why im hoping someone can help me tell the difference in order for me too work out what these bugs/beetles are. and just to inform you i do see them fly, not very often but now and then one or too can be seen flying a short distance. |

Woodworm would be in or emerging from woodwork: they make narrow tunnels and sawdust falls out of the end. This should be obvious if there are a lot of beetles emerging.
Food beetles may be either tenebrionids or weevils - there are quite a lot of similar looking ones - some large some very small found in various dried foodstuffs.
Have you any reason to rule out carpet beetles which are very common indoors?
Give us a bit more description - size, colour and shape especially! |

| | | Re: anyone know?? If they are there just now they will not be woodworm beetles. These hatch in the Summer. It is so long since we had any that I have forgotten which month but some Wabber will no doubt oblige very soon.

| | | Re: anyone know?? Evening Storm,
Yes, maybe A. verbasci. As for seperating Biscuit from Woodworm Beetle, the latter's elytra are darker, more elongate with a more pronounced pronotum - but may be a little subjective.
