| | Active Bombus hypnorum! The last B. hypnorum I saw this year was on the 30th of July, after seeing them quite regularly all season. That is, until today, a frosty, yet sunny day. I came across a B. hypnorum just before 4:00 pm, air temperature 6.5 oC, an active individual feeding on Mahonia flowers. I am still in shock, this is the first bumblebee I came across in November since I keep records. Unfortunately, my camera is being repaired at the minute, so no shots!

| | | Re: Active Bombus hypnorum! Shock understood! I had a similar surprise, albeit back at the start of November - and on that occasion Stuart mentioned there being several around... Bombus hypnorum - Nov 1st?
I wonder if they're like Bombus terrestris and might appear on the odd sunny day right through - or if these individuals have been disturbed/ confused by something.
V exciting sighting this late either way! Dill |

| | | Re: Active Bombus hypnorum! Sorry I missed you post Dillybythesea! I am still doubting myself though, as I saw what I believe it is a Bombus terrestris worker today in the same spot today (I got my camera back from being repaired this morning )
