Hi everybody
Just in case you fancy a weekend of hoverflies, the 6th International Symposium on the Syrphidae will be held in Glasgow from 5-8 August 2011. Dertails recently sent out to past participants today:
The British organising committee is making progress.
1. We have a venue booked in Glasgow for the conference starting on Friday 5 August and ending on Sunday the 7th August.
2. We are also giving thought to a field visit on Monday the 8th – this will depend upon the number of people who want an excursion – to Loch Lomond.
3. We are calling for submissions of abstracts for possible papers. The deadline for Title and Abstract submission is 1 April 2011.
4. We have set the final date for registration as 30 May 2011.
5. We have still to fix the costs for the meeting, which will depend upon numbers attending but for those of you needing to apply for grants the conference fee will be in the order of GB£80-100 (+VAT)
6. It is possible to book accommodation (self catering) in the Halls of Residence – around £20 per night for basic rooms with shared bathrooms up to £40.00 for a room with ensuite bathroom. This may also attract VAT which is now 20%.
7. Depending on the level of sponsorship we attract, we may be able to do more catering than coffee and food at lunchtime but for the time-being please work on having to find supper for yourselves. We will endeavour to organise a conference dinner but funds are a bit tight in the UK!
This is really just a first call – can you let me know if you are thinking of attending. Also, it would be really useful if you would forward these details to others who might be interested – I won’t claim to have managed to contact everybody.
Details will be posted on the Hoverfly Recording Scheme website
