| | | lymes disease i have been unwell for the past 4 years. it just seemed to happen overnight after being bitten by ticks, my daughter had actually taken one from my back that had been there for a few days. i have been diagnosed with evrything from stress to cfs and now fybromyalgia. i have the rash and have kept it for 4 years, it has been seen by hospital staff doctors and physiotherapists, i remember being bitten and have witnesses to the fact, i was extremely active and now am so fatigued that getting out of bed somedays is just too much. i changed my doctor and the new doctor took a nhs test which came back negative. what else can i do. i am certain i have lymes. how do i find a llmd (lyme literate doctor). i live in dumfreisshire can anyone give me a name or a way of contacting an llmd. thankyou. |

| | | Re: lymes disease We are not encouraged to give any kind of medical advice on this site as it is a wild life site. I can however say the test that your doctor did should show up lymes disease if you had aquired it. If you are not happy you could ask him for a repeat or further tests to put your mind at ease. The symptoms for many things are the same.
All of our readers should note, when out walking through open countryside you should always keep lower legs and feet covered to prevent being bitten by ticks.
I hope you get better soon |

| | | Re: lymes disease Our local GP's don't wait for test results to treat for Lyme's as it can take up to 8 weeks after a bite to get a positive test, if at all. They treat as soon as symptms develop.
My husband recently had a rash develop around a tick bite and his GP started him on a three week course of antibiotics immediately.
The best site I've found for information about ticks and bites is this one; Ticks - Lyme Disease & other tick borne diseases in Britain
I would have thought that an area like Dumfriesshire would have had GPs that were clued up on Lymes and ticks due to the amount of Grouse moors, certainly the GP's here are very well informed.
I hope you get it resolved.

| | | Re: lymes disease Hi molly
my niece who lives in the Highlands suffered with Lymes/ME for about 5 years. What has worked for her is the Lightning Process. If you Google this - there is plenty about it.

Most courses of antibiotics for "normal" illnesses only last 5 to 7 days, so I don't know if such short courses would have an effect.
Raigmore hospital in Inverness is the Scottish national testing centre for Lyme disease and there is a Doctor there who is a microbiologist, and is incredibly knowledgeable about it. I don't know if it would be possible for you to be referred to him or speak to him, unfortunately I can't remember his name.

| | | Re: lymes disease The last time I talked to a GP about this I was told that the standard initial treatment for Lyme disease was a 10 day course of strong antibiotics. This is also the standard prophylactic "just in case" treatment.
I do pick up ticks when I am out and about, if I can see the bite then I do keep an eye on the surrounding area for any rash. The one time I managed to pick up about 30 ticks (working in the New Forest) I removed all those I could reach and went to see my GP to ask for some antibiotics - the prescription was given essentially "on request" after I explained the situation. If you are worried about a bite just ask for the antibiotics - no need to wait for any test results. |
