unidentified Pyrennes grasshoppers

Having just returned from a trip to the Med, I wondered if anyone could identify these two grasshoppers for me, please.

I've looked at online images and failed on both counts.

The left hand insect maybe an Egyptian Grasshopper, Anacridium aegyptium, which I've seen around the Med- looks right shape + appears to have the striped eyes.

I've no idea on the other, but it is a beautifully marked grasshopper.

Paul has suggested that I post them on the Wild About the World site - so that's what I've done.
We'll see if someone can come up with an answer.

I don't know if you ever got your 2nd grasshopper identified?

My suggestion is Calliptamus barbarus. It definitely belongs to that genus at least.

I'd come up (vaguely) with somethings completely different!

I'm no expert either

But I'm going to stick to my Calliptamus genus because I think the body shape is a nearer match (stouter, shorter-bodied), the pronotum broader and is cream-edged on the lateral edge (bordering thorax), and the shorter wing length (almost same length as femur of hind leg).

You know, I never realized there was a 'Wild about the world' website!

Though the map doesn't show this particular Calliptamus to be found in the Pyrenees (the other species of this genus are listed anyway - have look).

'ID referees' now there's an idea! LOL.

I'll have a wee look at the WAW forum...though, I'm a member of far too many forums already, don't think I have the time for any more!

This is what I like about WAB - we all make an effort to help with ID even if we aren't experts

Thank you all for your suggestions and help. Confusing, isn't it ? I even came across a grasshopper named after a nearby mountain (near the one I was climbing) - did they post a picture ? No, they did not.

That said, I used the information you gave me to do some more searches and found the email address of someone who (might) know a bit about local grasshopper, so - in my appaling written french - I've asked for help with the identification.
I'll let you know if I receive a reply.
