What is this flying insect? Please ID :)

Hi everyone I'm new!
I've joined this site after a while of searching through Google images and wikipedia with no luck for finding this mosquito-type bug.
I came up lucky and found one picture of it, though the person who took this picture didn't know what it was either. It's the first Google Image after typing in “Weird mosquito”
I recently caught one of these strange little guys in my room, and it's unlike anything I've seen.
After capturing, I found the bug had four legs, though that's probably from losing two, I'm not sure how though, the capture wasn't damaging to the insect from what I saw. It stayed oddly calm during and after the process.
Anyway, enough of my rambling about the capture, here's the picture I found, and it appears to look exactly the same as my little visitor:

Spiny legs, dark brown in colour, aeroplane-like wings, and the weirdest natural pose of all, the tail flicks out whilst the back is raised upwards, quite a weird bug to come across.

I live in the north-west, and I've never seen one of these before.

It's a species of Plume Moth. Not the clearest of images, but looks rather like Amblytilia acanthodactyla.
