the photo is not good enough for me to identify this beetle to the species. I can tell, that it is family Chrysomelidae (Leaf beetles) and I guess genus Chrysolina (in former times Chrysomela).
It would be helpful to have some informations about the locality where you found it. It looks a bit like Chrysolina banksii, but this one appears in the south of Europe, but not in Britain.

Klaas | i googled it and yes it is defo the chrysolina banksii, it seems they do appear in the UK i even got a link to a thread asking for a id of one of these from other people in the uk  thanks |
