| | | Bug I.D Please Hello,
I hoped that someone might be able to identify the species of bug in the attached pictures.
We live in a new-build flat (two years old) and have always noticed one or two of these bugs in the bathroom. Our bathroom does not have a window and is not well ventilated.
Over the last week, we have begun to notice larger numbers of these bugs in our lounge, kitchen, hallway and bedroom. We sometimes find groups of them by or near the windows - where we have wooden blinds and lots of light.
The bugs are light brown, crawl (they do not fly or jump), and come in various sizes - some are very noticeable at around 2 millimetres, and others almost microscopic.
We are worried about these bugs - especially as they seem to be increasing in number - and would be grateful if someone could help to identify them or advise on how we can start to tackle the problem.
Thanks in advance. |

| | | Re: Bug I.D Please It's hard to say for sure from these, but they seem to be Dorypteryx (domestica or longipennis), a type of booklouse. They're harmless, but are a sign you'e got some damp bits around. Virtually every house has some booklice in, and they're very rarely a problem, but if you start getting billions of them, they're telling you there's a serious damp/mould issue somewhere. Small populations can live on the mould on dust particles, so there's not much you can do about those!
