Bug for ID

This bug was about 5mm long and appears to be carrying an egg on a spine on its abdomen. It was under loose bark of a tree stump.
Can anyone identify this please?

I'd say it was an apterous aphid. Was the tree a sycamore?
Others might give a better opinion - I'm interested to hear of them egg-laying at this time of year.

Hi Paul, thanks for replying.

I cannot say for sure which type of tree this stump belonged to but my guess is that it was a decidious tree from the bark.

Was I correct then that it was an egg on the abdomen? Are you saying this is a wingless female which is secondarily apterous? I do note that all Aphids start off as female.
