I saw one today on the Ivy, but I rarely see even one. Mine has big red eyes with a black body.

Hi all thanks for welcoming me to your WAB and for the replies, I am still trying to work out how to use everthing on here, I have managed to post picture of tiny flies that are biting us on Gallery. They don't look like midges but they do look quite like the blackfly I think, I will try to add pic on here now so you can see what they look like. |

| | | Re: SOS HELP! What is this tiny fly that bites us? The one on the right looks like a female mosquito, they need blood to develp thier eggs but males don't bite. I had one inside not long ago.
The other fly I can't say what it is as there as so many different flies, it's probably an ordinary muscid or house fly. There's a lot of fresh flies around now.

| | | Re: SOS HELP! What is this tiny fly that bites us? Hi again,
actually have just had another look at biting migdes and it might be them but I am not sure They leave little red bumps when they bite and I am sure they are breeding in the house even though I steam clean and vacume a lot. |

| | | Re: SOS HELP! What is this tiny fly that bites us? just thought, we do go through a ford at least twice a day in the car so this could be a clue, we could be bringing something in from there to the front of the house. |

Mosquitos need water, or boggy soil to breed in. Mosquitoes are doing well here now, and you have the correct breeding grounds nearby. Some do end up in the house, and now is a good time for them to be appearing. If you leave windows open you could end up with more coming in, I think they could be attracted to light too.
