Hello folks. Does anyone know what this is please? Are they common/rare, etc. I'm guessing they are common as I've seen a few of late.

It's an Ichneumon Wasp, possibly a Pimplinae species |

Could be Pimpla instigator (possibly the most common) or one of several very similar species. Ichneumons are a bit of a grey area. Try posting it to the Hymis forum, they have ID'd several for me.
We have had one similar in our garage recently, seems to like the gaps between the wood panels of the doors, possibly looking for somewhere to overwinter.
