| | | large slim-waisted solitary wasp
Please could someone tell me what this little charmer is. Having, today, taken delivery of YET ANOTHER book (on European insects), I'm very disappointed not to be able to identify it myself. I thought for a moment that it was going to be a field digger wasp, but it's too big. Can anyone help, please? |

| | | Re: large slim-waisted solitary wasp I've just had a quick look in Chinery's 'Insects of Britain and Northern Europe', and I would say it's Eumenes unguiculata or a very close relative. |

There are some wasps which can be identified from photos, and a lot more which can't. It would be a good idea to put it on the HYMIS forum where there are experts which might be able to tell you more.

Thank you both very much. I've never heard of that forum, so I'll be doing exactly that shortly.

| | | Re: large slim-waisted solitary wasp For anyone who has posted me - or anyone wondering what that wasp is:
Thanks to the suggestion - from Janet - I joined the HymIS forum and quickly learned what that wasp is................Europes largest potter wasp: Delta unguiculatus (Vespidae).
Thank you all for your help

I found someone's account of this wasp's nest building under their window which might be interesting to read.
