| | | Mites in Soil related to Rabbit decomposition?ASAP Hi,
I extracted some insects from the soil in Burnley and need help with identification of some mites. There is a really small dome shaped mite could be a nymph that looks like a jelly fish. They are clear to white. with whispy legs. They are in great numbers 1000 under a decomposing rabbit carcass. There is also a white mite with a beetle shaped body that i cant identify.
i would also like to know what phoretic mites are common to england as i cant find information of endogenous species online and keep coming up with predator species you can buy online. The pics I have are bad but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
P.S not sure how to post the pics
Thanks |

| | | Re: Mites in Soil related to Rabbit decomposition?ASAP I doubt if you'll get much help with mite identification here - though I'd gladly be proven wrong. It's a big group of invertebrates with very few specialists. I was once told (admittedly many years ago) that there are lots of species which have been collected, and stored as specimens on shelves, but experts don't have time to name them all. |

| | | Re: Mites in Soil related to Rabbit decomposition?ASAP It might help to post pics as you could have some insects other than mites.
You can post pics by uploading them via the 'Images' link on the top bar to the Image Library which will give access to the thumbnails when you post.
To do that when you have typed the text, place your cursor under the text or it will break the code. Then click on the 'Library Images' icon to the right of the text which will bring up the image thumbnails.
A single click on a thumbnail will place the link in you text box, you can put 5 images in a row or if you put a gap (paragraph space) after those you can make another row of images. A preview will show you if you have done it correctly.
I did find a site on mites once, it's in a thread somewhere here too if anyone can find it but I should have it in my favourites somewhere, that could be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Janet

| | | Re: Mites in Soil related to Rabbit decomposition?ASAP I found a site I had Identification of Ticks which might help, I think I had another though.
I had the Mites Identification directly under that link in my 'Bugs' folder!
