| | | Sawfly? for ID I believe this is a Sawfly (it does not seem to have a narrowed waist). Could someone please help with the ID? I have posted 3 images, at different angles, to help.

I agree with GC - not a Sawfly, too many narrow antennal segments. Ichneumonidae, I'd say.
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Thanks Gatekeeper and Jason .
Anyone know where I can get a breakdown of the Ichneumon species?

Yes, either or both of these. Even a site specialising in Ichneumon wasps.

| | | Re: Sawfly? for ID OK... Checklist: Checklist of UK recorded Ichneumonidae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Key to sub-families: http://www.brc.ac.uk/downloads/Ichne...family_key.pdf
The key will only do sub-family, when you have it pinned-down you'll need to try and source European literature and continue keying for a Genus or even species-level ID.
In my opinion without a collection then the checklist and key probably won't mean too much - too many subtle features for photographs, I'm afraid.
I've dabbled, and postponed Ichneumonidae personally... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
