what is this


I rescued this insect from a spiders web in a garden center in Lincolnshire,for my trouble it either bit or stung me,but it realy hurt for quite some time after.
The spiders web was in amoungst some inported plant pots so I wondered if it might be from abroad? it was about one centimeter long.

It is a water-bug, Notonecta glauca, the water-boatman or Backswimmer, found in almost every pond, a fierce predator with, as you have found, a painful bite(or stab) from its piercing mouthparts.
