| | | Bee and hoverfly for ID Any suggestions on ID for these two appreciated:
Bee, about 14mm. The hairs on its face are hard to see since it's covered in pollen, but I would say they are brown. The photos were taken on 11th June.
Hoverfly, about 9mm. The arista are hairless. These were taken just a couple of days ago.
The front of the face is covered in fine hairs.
Thanks

| | | Re: Bee and hoverfly for ID I will leave the bee for someone who specialises in that subject. I already have a couple from today which are going to tax my brain!
But the hoverfly is a Eupeodes female; and going by the amount of black on the frons, I would expect it to be E. latifasciatus. But E. corollae females are quite similar. |

| | | Re: Bee and hoverfly for ID The bee looks like a female Andrena. It is likely to be quite an old specimen given the date, and it is clearly one of the larger species. Likely to be something like A. carantonica, A. nitida or A. nigroaenea. It is impossible to be certain from this pic though! |
