Question Strange Ladybird
I've just seen this little 'ladybird' beetle and noticed the unusual markings. Can anyone offer any comments on it? Does anyone know what it actually is?

Any idea of size? It looks like a Harlequin ladybird to me.

I've collected the leaf it was on and the original photo included a mug shot of my thumb nail...so I can do a best guess that it was about 5mm in length. When I observed it, the size did not seem any different to usual ladybirds, but I do not know what a harlequin looks like.
It was the type of spot that seemed different.

It is a melanic form of Harlequin.
