| | | Carabid larvae for ID please Hi All,
Can anyone confirm which beetles these guys will grow into? I took them earlier this year.
This one turns up very often. I've always thought its the larva of the devil's coachhorse but I'd appreciate an expert opinion!
Not sure what this little chap might be!
Thanks! |

| | | Re: Carabid larvae for ID please I am by no means an expert but I would agree with you about the Devil's Coach Horse larvae (did a bit of a google images search so not exactly a scientific basis for ID!) but I've no idea on the other, sorry. Hopefully someone else can offer a suggestion.
Jo

| | | Re: Carabid larvae for ID please Morning GB,
The way to seperate Carabid from Staphylinid larvae is apparently the tarsal claws - Rove Beetles have one, Ground Beetles have two.
Yours has one, making it a Staphylinidae member. As for which, I have no idea how identifiable the larvae are - just keep an eye out in the general area for them as they mature.
Take care, Jason |
