It's the only Tachina we have here, so far.

Janet | **Cough*** Tachina grossa, Tachina ursina and Tachina lurida are also UK species. None of them look much like Tachina fera though...
Could I have the record details for your Tachina fera please. |

Could I have the record details for your Tachina fera please. | Phew so no change to the ID them.
Image details are:
Location: Plant Farm, Waterlooville, Hampshire.
Date: 2 September 2010.
Photogapher: Peter Drury
Equipment: Olympus E3 + Sigma 150 DG Macro + Metz Ring flash
Settings: Aperture Priority, TTL Flash (to Metz), exposure offset -.3, shutter 1/250s.
Plant farm had been cleared 2 years ago with all the top soil piled up in readiness for major housing construction. The recession stopped the build programme and the top soil was returned. The local farmer has grown crops in the field again this year. All in all, major disturbance to both flora and fauna.
Hope the above helps Matt.

| | | Re: Tachina fera? Thanks for the details - do you have a grid ref for the site please. Tachina fera is a parasite of various tree feeding species of lepidoptera, so the messing about with the topsoil will have little effect on this species apart from providing a nice disturbed site for the ragwort to grow on. |

Grid Reference SU 674 090.
Thanks for the additional info re this site. Since it has returned to farmland (albeit briefly) I have visited it most days and always found something new.
