A male Syritta pipiens for the first. The second is also a male - any other angles?

It could be a male Platycheirus such as P. albimanus, but I'd await other opinions first. |

The second certainly looks like a Platycheirus but we really need to know for sure if it is male or female, and from that angle I'm not totally certain.
If it is male we have a problem with a front leg which, as far as I can see, lacks any expanded area on the tibia/tarsus.
The only alternative that I can think of is a strangely marked Melanstoma sp.
If it is female, the largely black front femur also restricts options. But with a rather dull thorax, I do wonder about P. manicatus. | | |
