Those in the Pimpilinae sub-family tend to look quite big and robust, but I wouldn't like to go that far from a photo.

I can't see an obvious 'waist' on this insect so it may be a Sawfly such as a Sirex sp. Sirex noctilio is the commonest in the UK apparently but I'd wait for someone else to confirm the id, it may well not be possible to do so from a photo.
