| | Black & White Striped Wasp-like Insects Hello, I am frequently getting the above visitors into my garden this year and was wondering what insect exactly they actually are.
They are black and white striped wasp-like with wings like a fly. They don't appear to have a sting. They don't stop in one spot very long so was wondering if it is a type of an hornet? They are beautiful!! |

You wouldn't happen to have a photo would you? Th Ichneumon wasps have a few black and white striped family members and so do the solitary bees. A bit more info would help.

| | | Re: Black & White Striped Wasp-like Insects With wings like a fly, could they be a fly?
How long are they, are the stripes on the abdomen?
Is the abdomen narrow or broad and flat? Do they have a narrow waist or is it about the same as the whole body?
What type of eyes does it have, those of a hoverfly which are big, dull and squarish or black, shiny and elongated like a wasps?
A hoverfly which has white 'stripes' which don't meet in the middle is Scaeva pyrastri.
