| | | A bee and a hoverfly Found these two at the natural history museum's wildlife garden. First, hoverfly:
I think this is a hoverfly because of the eyes and the big false vein thing on the wings, and I think it's Syrphus ribesii. Am I correct?
Second, the bee:
I have no idea at all. What could this fuzzy little monster be? I loved the tawny colour of the "mane." |

| | | Re: A bee and a hoverfly Thanks for the hoverfly ID, I think I see where I went wrong. I didn't pay enough attention to the thorax and also ignored the fact it was hairy.
Here's the bee, re-uploaded: |

| | | Re: A bee and a hoverfly Hi,
I'm sorry, I don't know anything about grid references. I saw this in the Natural History Museum wildlife garden in August, I think on the 26th. It was late afternoon and just after a heavy rainstorm. |

| | | Re: A bee and a hoverfly Afternoon Spiky,
For grid-refs, go to MultiMap and find the relevant street. Place the red-marker by the specific location by right-clicking, and then look to the Map Information below the map to the right for the Grid Ref. It will appear as two letters and ideally six numbers - yours being TQ266790. Maps of the world, street map search - powered by Multimap
Take care, Jason | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
