The red/black fly is probably Eriothrix rufomaculata, very common now and seems to love Ragwort!

C. | It's been a pretty good year for Gatekeepers in my area (Cardiff), with good numbers in most of my local patches. The image I'm using for my avatar was the best pic that I obtained of the species this year.

The flies were seen at Saint Michael & Saint Mary Magdalene Churchyard, Crowthorne Road, Easthampstead, Bracknell, Berkshire. Grid ref:- SU863677 The photo was taken at 13:44pm on 27.08.10
