Type of insect bite or sting

Good afternoon all, just a quick question my son was bitten or stung today but im not sure what by where the bite/sting occurd its swollen about the size of a 5 pence, the swelling is perfectly round and in the centre of the swelling is a red dot only way i could descriped the red dot is as if he had been pricked with a tooth pick, he says around the bite or sting area is painful, not feeling any pain any where else.

anyone shed some light on to which insect could of caused this.

If it was a Wasp your son encountered Civvie he would almost certainly have noticed instant pain, but no so a Horse Fly, these insects alight on flesh so gently they go un-noticed and the effect can take a while to be felt, so my guess is that it was a Horse Fly.
