why am i the only one that gets bitten to death when we go down to the river? most of my friends seem to get away with it ..! how come im' so tasty ?

Maybe they eat marmite

(your friends I mean)

I am like you and I get bitten all the time. I carry anti histamines and hydrocortisone cream with me whenever I am out in the countryside. You will get 101 suggestions on how to avoid it (marmite being one) and you will have to see what works for you. Skin so soft works well for me (when I remember to use it

).

Could it be something you are wearing? Antiperspirant, perhaps? Or perhaps it is a hormone thing? Or maybe they just LIKE you??

Thank's folks i will bear your thought's in mind the only thing or should i say common denominator that comes to mind i am not a lover of garlic and all my friends semm to thrive on it ..! just a thought

Garlic is one of the supposed remedies so maybe it is true.

I heard if you eat sweet stuff you get bit more.
Yes eating lots of garlic helps to deter bites..

Might sound daft but I think your reaction to them (well, midges anyway) might make a difference.

I can be in the garden with a cloud of midges round me and so long as I keep it together I don't seem to get bitten. As soon as I lose it and go 'aarghh' that's the trigger for the feeding frenzy to start.

Change in body chemicals maybe?

When my husband was working in Djbouti he ws told by the locals to drink tonic water as the quinine in it will put them off. It worked for him and his colleagues (though personally I can't stand tonic water) so if you like a G&T there's no better excuse to have one!

With all the threads and posts on bites there ought to be a permanent place on this site for health and safety in the field.I always carry a tube of well known antiseptic analgesic cream/ointment on an amble.
