| | | Please ID 2mm jumping beetle?
Found at home, crawling over hairs on my arm. Jumped when disturbed. First thought it was a flea until looking at it under a magnifying glass: orange, <>2mm in length, typical beetle shape with carapace, little black hooks on feet. I live in a residential area, lots of gardens, no ponds, rivers or marsh land.
Would love to know what this insect is...
With thanks.

| | | Re: Please ID 2mm jumping beetle? It's a flea beetle, and I'm pretty sure a Longitarsus sp. There are about 150 European species of these, so getting to species needs dissection. They're very common on a variety of garden and wasteland plants, but especially seem to like composites and legumes. They're great fun, though, these boingy ones.
