| | | Ichneumon extensorius Hello all,
Yesterday afternoon iw as able to photograph what I think is an Ichneumon extensorius, but I am not expert enough to be sure, so if anyone could confirm, or indeed offer an alternative ?
Also does anyone know if they are common, not so common etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
Thanks,
Steve :-) |

| | | Re: Ichneumon extensorius Afternoon Steve, and welcome to WAB!
It would appear to match Internet photographs, but with Ichneumons you need to have a specimen under the microscope. There are 2,000 species of these in the UK, and very few are distinctive-enough to identify in the field/from photos. Sorry I can't help more!
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Ichneumon extensorius Thanks guys, I did notice looking on the net there are many that look very similar but not the same even just from photo's !
I'll identify it as 'probably' just to be safe :-)
All the best,
Steve :-) |

| | | Re: Ichneumon extensorius Your safe to identify this as Ichneumon extensorius, its a very common and distinctive species. Some of the larger ones can be identified from photos. |
