Hoverflies (I tried)

I replaced my fish pond with a butterfly and bee garden as the pond wasn't very successful and I now have two grandchildren (10 months and 3 weeks) to think about for safety reasons. I bought these seeds from a cheap shop. They cost £1



Have hardly seen any bees or butterflies on them but have I have loads of 7 spot ladybirds and a variety of hoverflies. I have spent most of the evening looking at the WAB Gallery to try and identify them myself and I am getting more and more confused.

Beautiful flowers! Evidently productive and appreciated.

OK... male Dasysyrphus tricinctus, male Episyrphus balteatus, male Eupeodes latifasciatus, male Syrphus sp., female Sphaerophoria sp., female Syrphus sp., male Eristalis sp. and Scaeva pyrastri - poss. female.

Side-views of 4, 6 & 7 would be needed for species-level.

Well I managed two correctly. Episyrphus Balteatus and Dasysyrphus tricinctus. I also managed Syrphus sp, Eupeodes sp and Sphaerophoria sp.

Did you know there are at least 500 pictures of hoverflies in the Gallery and I have spent the evening looking at every single one to try and I.D. these myself and you can do it in 1 minute

1. male Dasysyrphus tricinctus,
2. male Episyrphus balteatus
3. male Eupeodes sp. I don't think it is latifasciatus
4. male Syrphus sp.
5. female Sphaerophoria sp.
6. female Syrphus sp.
7. male Eristalis tenax
8. female Scaeva pyrastri

Can we have the data for the recording scheme please - date, locality grid ref & recorder
