| | | Re: Identify larvae please Afternoon Neil, and wecome to WAB!
There are two options I'm considering. Firstly the larva of a Fungus Gnat ( not too sure of which family of Gnats I'm considering - Sciaridae is one) - these can appear to be quite long, slightly taper and consist of more than just the ghoulish transparency! Secondly is the option of larva of a Hoverfly.
How long was it? As I see it, Sciarid larvae are often found under damp wood and hoverfly larvae around leaves, near aphids which are their their foodsource. Which of these sorts of areas of these options have you been near today? This differentiation could help seperate these possibles.
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Identify larvae please Great, thanks for your help.
I think i sat on a wall, next to some grass, but apart from that i had very little contact with anything. I was really just checking to make sure it wasn't something really nasty, as it was just crawling on my hand in the office.
However, it did make me come online and find this excellent resource. I am a landscape architect and i work on a fair few ecology related projects, so I'll be back again.
Thanks for the welcome and the answers!

| | | Re: Identify larvae please Ah... I'd therefor assume it's a Hoverfly larva, and given the size and perhaps thinned-out proportions it may have only recently 'hatched'.
That said, I'd welcome other opinions! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
