Strange Insect on boat?

We have recently had a problem with Strange Insects Landing on our Boat, the Boat is bright Orange and wondered if this is a commont thing for an Insect to do, also wonder what type of insect this is can anyone help identify it?

It's a Giant Wood Wasp, Urocerus gigas.

As for landing on your orange boat, it could be they are attracted to the colour! Or they want to lay their eggs in your wood, they usually lay them in conifers but dead wood.

Thanks for the reply, the interesting thing is we saw some round the boat in Argyll but also at our home last week, so I am fairly sure its the colour that is attracting them. Not much wood around the Boat as its a Fibreglass Inflatable ...glad it never tried the tubes to lay the eggs. Cheers Iain
