| | | large hard bodied wasp? Hi all.
I'm new and hope I can pick your brains. Today I had to rescue a large flying hard bodied wasp (i think) from my hall as it was banging it's head against the glass door. I've never seen anything like it before but I'm hoping someone on the site may have.
It was about an inch or more long and looked just like a very large wasp appart from a couple of things. It had a hard body and it's wings appeared to be underneath the hard top coat . It was defo getting them out from under there thought as it was trying its very best to fly... badly. It was also an odd colour. It was all black appart from it's stripes. The stripes were wider than a wasps and didn't travel in a straight line, they had a kind of kink in them. It had 2 stripes that were a kind of terracotta in colour. I've been all over the net and have not found a pic of it yet. Could it be a hornet I've never seen before? |

| | | Re: large hard bodied wasp? Hi Lesley, Google Nicrophorus investigator, it's a beetle. I've been bringing them inside on my clothes lately after taking moth pics , they are sneaky. They tend to bombard you too.

You were right. The picture I found just lacked the protruding wings, which would have given the body that 'elongated' look. Glad I got it out of the house because they can throw up a foul odour when distressed. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
