ID please
hi all.
we were on a photo shoot in the lakes at the weekend and came across this critter. the photo doesnt give the scale of it very well but it was well over an inch long. i at first though of some kind of wasp but it didnt go into defence mode when touched. can anyone id it please.

It's the Horntail Wasp, Urocerus gigas.

These ichneumon wasps and sawflies can be a bit tricky; but I can't see any wasp like waist there so I would assume it is a sawfly.

In which case it does appear very similar to a Horntail (Urocerus gigas).
