| | | wildlife garden needs your help im *trying* to convince the church of england to let me turn a little scrap of land into a wildlife garden.
it already has butterflies, foxes and crickets amongst other things but its a mess and no one can get in there because its walled and fenced off;
if they agree (longshot) who could i call on for help?
iv asked b&q as they give things to charity.
i will also ask locals
and iv asked a chainsaw artist to donate a sculpture- could be a reject of theirs or one thats not selling
does anyone have any ideas about what to put in there?
im thinking:
bog garden
pond (will have to think this over due to children)
a ladybird/bug tower |

| | | Re: wildlife garden needs your help The idea is a good one, but in trying to create a wildlife 'garden' you might have the opposite effect on the wildlife that already exists there.

| | | Re: wildlife garden needs your help i see how you could think that but i doubt it will
im going to keep all the existing plants and just move them about and add more plants etc, it will have more plants than paths..
its a big rubbly rubbish filled crud hole at the moment. i dont think i could make it any worse lol
if i dont do something with it it will end up getting built on anyway |

| | | Re: wildlife garden needs your help Morning WO,
It sounds like an interesting project. What does the CoE have to do with this land?
As a side-note, it sounds like it could be classed as ' brownfield' land - good for unusual insects or plants. If you could get access, then it could be worth getting your local Wildlife Trust to have a look, carry-out a brief survey. They may already know something! Photos would be great.
Still, if the CoE own the land aren't interested in your plans then there's little that can be done.
Still, give it a try - good luck!
Take care, Jason |

it is a brown field site yes, used to have a CoE building on it untill they knocked it down because it was a total hole!
no one around here gives one its a rubbish area (liverpool in general), so would be an epic struggle getting people to survey, the closest national trust place wanted me to survey their place, put it that way!
i emailed the lancashire wildlife something or other about a red kite and they didnt seem too botherd to be honest.
i thought they would have been as they are rare where i live
edit:
i would looooove to do something here http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...13711&t=h&z=16
its amazing but no ones allowed in as its next to the gasworks and they are paronoid about poisoning people- its just down the road from my space, its a vast expance of wonder- looks like a park from above http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...,0.006856&z=17
the one by the blue square on the right- zoom in, its before they knocked the place down

| | | Re: wildlife garden needs your help I visited a reserve run by Berks, Bucks and Oxon WT last week and they had a load of "How To" leaflets that they'd printed and were giving out for free. The couple I've looked at were very inspirational, such as one for managing a wildflower meadow. Have you tried your equivalent, the LancsWT for help? Contact Us
I'd go for some experienced/professional help, as I reckon you need someone with experience.
Can you post some pictures?

they were the people iv contacted before and i didnt find them very helpful, i saw a red kite and they werent even botherd really.
as i say there isnt really anyone around here that can help.
i think its hard for other people to understand, people get stabbed and shot
there is **** all around here, its rough and i hate it thats why i want to do it
its very very deprived; as is liverpool in general, its not like surrey or even its neighbour cheshire. there is *nothing* here its a hell hole
edit* also that leaflet giving out place looks amazing, but we dont even have a that kind of thing, pickerings pasture is fabulous i love it (but thats over the border by about 10 mins into cheshire)

| | | Re: wildlife garden needs your help Boddie had a thread on a similar problem where he lives, see... Help me please
there might be some ideas on that which will be of help, or he might advise you if he has been able to progress with it. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
