Unidentified flies photographed near lakes.

These two were photograohed near lakes but I still cannot identify them from my books.
Can anyone please help?
I think the one with the yellow head may even be a hover type fly.

Of course I am happy to help so can you tell me the information your are seeking and I will assist if at all possible.

I and my wife (the photographer) are keen enthusiasts but ignorant about insect identification although we do are best to identify before seeking help.
