Thanks for all your input on this, guys - it seems we're not going to be able to separate C.proxima from C.vulpina on this one, are we?

We could probably get a positive ID on those photos, they are very clear, if we only knew enough about this complicated family.

Apparently, Roger Morris is in Shetland at the moment so has fallen behind with the 'paperwork' but is attempting to catch up.

Possibly sending a linked photo to the Hoverfly Recording Scheme soon might produce a more informed response than we keen amateurs.
